During high school in Santa Barbara, he was bitten by the acting bug and performed in several plays both in high school and at Santa Barbara College. After about a year with a local semi- professional acting company, Randy received a scholarship to the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York from the Santa Barbara Foundation for the Arts. While at the Academy, he won the Charles Jehlenger Award for Best Actor for his role in the play, " Philadelphia, Here I Come, " an award which he shared with Brad Davis.
